Edney shares fight glory
IT was labelled by some as the best kickboxing fight in Melbourne so it’s no wonder people are already trying to plan a rematch.
Warrnambool Muay Thai kickboxer Sam Edney was involved in a thrilling draw with Adelaide professional Kym Johnson at Balaclava on Sunday night.
Trainer Steve Andrews, of WhiteTiger Gym, said it was Edney’s first draw in his career, taking his record to 14-3-1.
“It does happen but, as I said to Sam at the end of the fight, I wouldn’t want to be a judge in this one,” he said.
“Some of the pundits in Melbourne who go to watch a fair few fights were saying that it was the best fight they had seen in Melbourne ever.”
Andrews described the first round as fairly even.
“Sam landed a good punch right at the end of the bell and knocked Kym right down but he was saved by the bell,” he said.
“The second round, Kym opened up a cut on Sam with some elbows.
“The whole five rounds just went back and forth.
