WITH Remembrance Day just around the corner we thought it a fitting time to remind everyone of the current project on War Heroes, being run by the Lithgow and District Family History Society Inc.
The society has had fantastic results, and have been given so many copies of Australian Diggers War Histories including photos and personal letters that were sent back to loved ones in Australia and also letters sent across to the diggers overseas.
There is the story of the three Calaghan brothers who all went to WWI but sadly none of them returned, and also the Walker family from Portland whose father served in WWI and returned and then his five sons all enlisted in WW2 and all returned.
A booklet has also beeN produced by Muriel Irwin of the story of WW1 taken from her father’s diary’s RJ Schulstad in the trenches, and transcribed word for word.
There is also the story written by Harold Williams of his experiences in Egypt and France.
